Upcoming LBD Forum to focus on building business resilience

ASIA Inc Forum has announced that its next event, the Local Business Development (LBD) Forum, will happen on August 11 in Radisson Hotel.

The event is part of Asia Inc Forum’s LBD development programme – an initiative through which they encourage local SMEs to develop and grow as the backbone of the Brunei economy.

This year’s edition of the LBD Forum will be carrying the theme, ‘Building Resilient SMEs: Strategies for Business Transformation’.

Asia Inc Forum stated that the discussions will focus on how people can build a resilient business that can withstand the challenges ahead, be it disruptive technologies, natural disasters and crises or resource shortages.

The talks will also centre on developing the ability of businesses to survive and proactively adapt over a sustained period of time.

The upcoming forum is set to feature local and foreign business leaders who will share their experience in business and overcoming challenges amidst challenging business environment.

The guest speaker at the event will be Dato’ David Cheang, the founder and CEO of property development company DC13 Development Pte Ltd in Singapore.

His topic, ‘Recovering from Failure: A case study in Re-invention and Transformation’ will be followed by a question-and-answer session moderated by Shaun Hoon, the editor of Inspire Magazine.

The LBD Forum will also feature an open forum discussion on ‘Starting, Building and Sustaining a Business: The ABCs of Business Transformation’, moderated by the Chairman of Asia Inc Forum, Dato Timothy Ong.

This session will feature a distinguished panel comprising of Shaiful Arief Dato Paduka Haji Abd Razak, CEO of CIC Environmental Services Sdn Bhd; Ambrose Nathan, Managing Director of Bizadvice; Dr Peter Ting, Chief Co-Creation Group, Malaysia and Irene Hii, Managing Director of Valor Property Agency.

Explaining the rationale behind the theme of the event, Asia Inc Forum’s Brunei Programme Manager Nanette Ramos told the Bulletin, “In the face of rapid fundamental change, and with financial, technological, political, and social conditions evolving at a supersonic speed, business is being reshaped globally. Only the resilient will survive and grow. Therefore, building and sustaining a resilient business is a commercial imperative.”

She explained that, through the event, Asia Inc Forum hopes to provide the tools, network and inspiration to engage business leaders to think more about enhancing long-term sustainability against a backdrop of constant change.

“It is resilience that will see them capitalising on the opportunities regardless of the challenges ahead; whether that be exploding populations, disruptive technologies, natural disasters, resources shortages,” she added. “The business that puts the strategies for success in place today are the ones that will remain unbreakable.”
