Asia Inc Forum organised a public screening of Annie Leonard’s ‘The Story of Stuff’ and an Australian Award Winning Documentary ‘Waste Not’ at the Jerudong International School (JIS) last night.

The proceedings saw the Chairman of Asia Inc Forum, Dato Paduka Timothy Ong giving a few words before the screening, to set the mood and prepare the audience for the film.

Over 500 people turned out to the screening of the Story of Stuff, which is one of the most successful environmental-themed viral films of all time, having generated over 15 million views in more than 200 countries and territories since its launch in 2007.

In a press statement, Asia Inc Forum quotes Annie as saying, “We need to make responsible choices – like driving less, sharing more, being vigilant about not creating waste – are important in that they are the right things to do.”

Waste Not is described in the press statement as an Australian film made by the Total Environment Centre that talks about where your garbage goes, who sorts it for you, and what it is worth if it isn’t just tossed into landfill.

Fatin Arifin, the Programmes & Research Executive at Asia Inc Forum is also quoted in the press statement as saying, “We hope that the screening will get many of us to rethink the way we look at all the stuffs in our lives.”

“We tend not think about the waste we create because we have this mentality of out of sight out of mind,” she added.

“But clearly that thinking needs to change in order to have a more sustainable world.”

According to the statement, Andrew Fowler-Watt, the Principal of Jerudong International School said, “I am delighted that JIS is able to host the screening of the documentary ‘The Story of Stuff’ and hope that it helps to bring the important issues of consumption and wastage to a wider audience”.

The screening was organised in collaboration with HSBC Brunei, TOTAL, Butra HeidelbergCement and Alcoa and supported by JIS.
