Bandar Seri Begawan – The Youth Go Green Initiative Awards 2011 themed “Saving the World, Saving Our Future” is now currently open for submission until May 20, a news release from Asia Inc Forum stated.

Organised by Asia Inc Forum in conjunction with the National Environment Conference (NEC), the contest is open to both government and private schools at all levels.

The Youth Go Green Initiative Awards aims to recognise the contribution of the young citizens of Brunei in promoting environmental awareness on the effects of climate change and global warming as well as, stimulating their creative minds in taking action to save the environment for their future through innovative green solutions.

The entry criteria for the projects include being an established institution or youth association or student body, having a measurable environmental impact and, ideally, having demonstrated progress by the application deadline.

These projects must also be supervised by a schoolteacher, instructor or an association leader. The Awards aim to inculcate in students the importance of protecting the environment for a sustainable future. The kinds of initiatives that are encouraged are water conservation, energy efficiency, improved waste management and recycling, enhancing local indigenous biodiversity and pollution prevention. However, candidates are also encouraged to explore other initiatives.

The projects will be assessed on five criteria, namely: environmental vision, innovation, impact/ measurable results, influence/outreach and sustainability/ commitment.

The Youth Go Green Initiative Awards is the first exclusive recognition for youth environmental projects following two consecutive recognition awards for businesses and institutions as part of National Environment Conference 2009 and 2010.

The Youth Go Green initiative Awards recognition ceremony will take place on June 8 at the National Environment Conference. The Awarding ceremony will also recognise the achievements of students who participate in the National Eco Video Competition organised by International School of Brunei (ISB) and Jerudong International School (BS) together with the Science Technology and Environment Partnership (STEP) Centre as part of a collaboration with the National Environment Conference.
