NEC 2011 kicks off today

THE National Environment Conference 2011 kicks off today with a full agenda to tackle the current and pressing environmental issues in the Sultanate, and a host of foreign and local green ‘heroes’ who will be facilitating open discussions between attendees and panelists.

Themed “Green Brunei: New Ideas for a Sustainable Country”, the day-long event will take place at the Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong, and is separated into four sessions.

“Celebrating Brunei’s Marine Biodiversity: A New Look at an Old Resource” will see South African environmentalist Brendon Sing, founder of The Shark Guardian, making a short presentation on marine bio-diversity.

Brunei’s disaster readiness is also up for discussion.

One of the major highlights of the conference will be the Youth Go Green Initiative Awards, a major push for youth advocacy towards the green movement.- Ying Chia
