The 3rd National Environment Conference 2010, themed “Sustainability or Growth: Can We Have Both?” will take place on 1 July at the Empire Hotel.

The conference is expected to bring together about 300 delegates from the public and private sectors to address questions around environmental sustainability, resource stewardship, and individual lifestyle.

This year’s conference will feature local and overseas figures and thought leaders on confronting the tough choices and trade-offs in favor of the environment and sustainable economic development of Brunei. The sessions will cover national environmental sustainability, the opportunities in carbon trading, the future of energy, environmentally sustainable manufacturing, green planning for the future and other key issues and challenges. It brings together individuals, business leaders, government officials and members of the academe who are keen on and follow best practices and policies on environment protection and preservation.

In conjunction with the conference, the Go Green Sustainability Awards, now on its second year, will recognize outstanding Bruneian organizations and individuals for their initiative to adopt environmentally sustainable practices. The Awards are aimed to raise awareness and encourage the adoption of green practices in businesses and the workplace.

Alongside the conference, a “green showcase” open to the public will also take place. The exhibition will feature “green” practices, products and services, and aims to educate the public about the importance and relevance of reducing, reusing and recycling.

This year’s National Environment Conference is a platform for dialogue between business, government and other stakeholders on key issues around the environment and sustainable economic development, convened by Asia Inc Forum in collaboration with TOTAL, HSBC, Alcoa, Butra Heidelberg and ST Engineering and supported by the Borneo Bulletin and Media Permata.
