Bandar Seri Begawan – Abridge for the digital divide is a major aspect in this year’s THINK BIG Innovate 2011 forum on the latest technology to bring participants together and overcome distance.

The technology and entrepreneurship forum on Oct 20 will use a real time conference question and answer tool named Pigeonhole Live. It is the brainchild of technology company PigeonLab Pte Ltd, co-founded by two fresh graduates, Hew Joon Yeng and Lyon Lim Yu Tian, from the National University of Singapore (NUS).

In Pigeonhole Live, the audience can post and vote for questions on their smartphones, tablets and laptop PCs whilst empowering them to drive the direction of the panel discussion and Q&A session in addressing their queries.

This technology has been widely used across conferences and seminar forums in Singapore, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, China and other countries since its official launch in September 2010 at the Tertiary Technology Conference.

Yeng, the business developer for Pigeonhole Live, will be the moderator for the session on Social Media during the forum.

Prior to starting Pigeonhole Live, the recognised youth read Biomedical Sciences and minored in Technopreneurship under the innovative Local Enterprise Achiever Development (iLEAD) programme at NUS, Yeng interned with a local start-up business and was working directly with its founder.

He networked with the thought leaders of entrepreneurship from the heart ofthe Silicon Valley and Zhong Guan Chun in Beijing.

Following the iLEAD programme, Yeng took a study leave from NUS to further develop the business ideas with co-partner Tian.

He left the Honours programme to set up PigeonLab, self-funded under a grant from SPRING Singapore and supported by NUS Enterprise Incubator.

Asia Inc Forum’s Executive Director, Stuart Kemp, praised Yeng’s business leadership and described Yeng as “a shining example for young people out there that a great business idea can come from anywhere regardless of age and education”.

The forum, he said, will be “exciting” and that it will bring together entrepreneurs, students, government officers, the business community and “everyone looking to be inspired from someone like Joon Yeng in a format that encourages interactive dialogues and discussion”.

Themed “Innovation … Inspiring and Driving Change, ” the forum will explore how innovation driver technology has inspired change and how entrepreneurs have used these innovations to bring value to business and society.

Other international speakers expected at the forum include the founder of the largest seller of independent music online, Derek Sivers, Ann Burgaff, former Vice President of Marketing at Salesforce and Neil Jackson from Microsoft Asia Pacific.

THINK BIG Innovate 2011 is co-organised by iCentre and Asia Inc Forum in partnership with Microsoft, BSP and DST. More information can be found at www.asiaincforum.com.
