Innovation, Entrepreneurship Discussion At Think Big Innovate 2011 Forum

Bandar Seri Begawan – Derek Sivers, founder and former president of CD Baby, the largest online seller of independent music will be in Brunei on October 20 to discuss about Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the THiNK BIG Innovate 2011 Forum, said a press release from Asia Inc Forum.
A professional musician since 1987, Derek founded CD Baby by accident out of a crazy idea in 1998 when he was selling his own CD on his website and friends asked if he could sell theirs too.
Derek quickly created one of the easiest solutions for an artiste to get their music into digital delivery stores like iTunes and Amazon. In a few years, CD Baby went on to become the largest seller of independent music on the web, with over US$100 million in sales for over 150,000 musician clients to date. In 2008, Derek sold CD Baby to Disc Makers for US$22 million.
Derek is the Winner of 2003 World Technology Award in the field of Entertainment. He is labelled by Esquire magazine as ‘one of the last music-business folk heroes’.
Derek recently published a book titled “Anything You Want” that details his journey into entrepreneurship, his success and failures written in a straight forward and honest way.
A review from Forbes stated that “one of the best hours you’ll ever spend will be reading Derek Sivers’s new book … Anything You Want”.
At the Forum, Derek will address the commercialisation of ideas and how to foster the environment to create innovation.
He will also join the panel on social media to speak on the advantage, the opportunities and the risks in social media.
The fourth annual technology & entrepreneurship forum in Brunei THINK BIG Innovate 2011 co-organised by iCentre and Asia Inc Forum in partnership with Microsoft, BIDB and DST will take place at The Empire Hotel & Country Club. The forum is expected to bring together 250 delegates from the ICT industry, government, business community and educational institutions as well as youth and aspiring entrepreneurs.
The forum themed “Innovation … Inspiring and Driving Change” will explore how innovation driven technology has inspired change and how entrepreneurs have used these innovations to bring value to businesses and society.
The tracks at the forum include opportunities in ICT entrepreneurship, business innovation, digital marketing and social media.
Aside from Derek Sivers, the forum will also feature distinguished thought leaders and entrepreneurs from the region including Ann Burgraff, Former VP of Corporate Marketing at Salesforce and Hew Joon Yeng, co-founder of PigeonLab Pte Ltd as well as leading local speakers from government and business.
