Four Bruneian women honoured for achievements

Four Bruneian women were honoured at “The Women’s Forum” yesterday, in recognition for their leadership in their respective fields and their contribution to the Brunei economy, a statement by organiser AsiaInc Forum said.

Najibah Eradah PAM Al-Sufri, 27, was awarded the “Young Woman Achiever” for being the first Bruneian woman to ski the South Pole.

Working as a diplomat officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Najibah Eradah, or popularly known as “Polar Girl”, was awarded for inspiring other youths to achieve big.

Dk Nurazriana Pg Hassanan at the Royal Brunei Armed Forces also received the “Young Woman Achiever” honour for being awarded the “Sword of Honour” during the Second Sovereign’s Parade.

The “Sword of Honour” is the most prestigious award given to an officer cadet, and Dk Nurazriana was also a recipient for being the first female officer cadet to receive the award.

Another recipient, Haslina Taib, chied executive officer of BAG Networks obtained the “Woman Achiever in Corporate Sector” award for having the first “directorship position” outside of Brunei. She was also awarded for being appointed as a Apec Business Advisory Council (Abac) member this year.

The fourth recipient was President and Co-Founder of Learning Ladders Dr Sharina Yunos, who received the “Emerging Woman Leader in Social Work” for being an advocate for Science-based educational strategies for autistic children.

She is also dedicated to improving the outcome and the quality of life for these children, by striving to ensure they receive the education they deserve.

Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bulqiah was on hand to present the awards to the representatives of the four recipients, as they were unable to attend the event.

More than 200 women from the government, business and civil society participated in The Women’s Forum 2010, themed “Women Rising: New Aspirations, New Challenges”.
